Hello

My name is Deb Shartle.

I am passionate about helping individuals and families understand not only the process of putting an estate plan together, but the important role that estate planning plays in ensuring that your final wishes are followed when your legacy passes to others. As a former math teacher, my goal is to make complex legal matters clear and approachable, so my clients not only make informed decisions, but feel confident in them.

    My Story

As a proud graduate of Campbell Law School with honors, I have cultivated a strong foundation in legal principles and practices. My passion lies in estate planning, where I aim to provide clients with tailored solutions to secure their legacies. I am dedicated to guiding individuals and families through the complexities of this vital area of law.

In addition to helping families, I am passionate about advocating for vulnerable populations, including clients with special needs and protecting individual rights. As a former U.S.Air Force Officer, I also enjoy working with military veterans.

Prior to starting my own firm, I was an Associate Attorney at Arges Law Firm, P.C. in Durham, NC, where I helped build its estate planning practice a well as working in estate administration, elder law planning, and performing residential real estate closings.

But estate planning is my love. After assisting numerous families and loved ones navigate the complexities of estate administration and the probate process, I became increasingly passionate about helping clients take proactive steps. My goal is to streamline, minimize, and even eliminate these time-consuming, and at times complex, processes for their loved ones through effective estate planning. By creating thoughtful comprehensive plans, I aim to ensure that my clients can provide peace of mind for their families in the future, making the transition smoother and more manageable during difficult times.

I am a big fan of incorporating trusts into estate planning. A revocable living trust allows a client to place their assets into a trust, with complete freedom to not only manage those assets during the client's life, but also to transfer those assets to heir and beneficiaries without the need for probate. At the end of the day, I think you create a trust not for yourself, but to make your loved ones' lives easier.

In addition to my law degree, I also hold a Masters of Education (M.Ed.) and Bachelors Degrees in Mathematics from Cedar Crest College and in Business Administration from the University of Houston. Prior to obtaining my law degree and becoming a licensed attorney, I served in the United States Air Force as an officer, taught Mathematics in the public school system, and privately tutored students from elementary school through college in math.

I am a member of the North Carolina State Bar. I am also a member of the Real Property, Estate Planning, and Elder and Special Needs Law Sections of the North Carolina Bar Association. Locally I am a member. of the Johnston County Bar Association. As an estate planning attorney, I am a member of WealthCounsel and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
